How the Prophetic is Tied to the Release of the Power of God in the Church
I am humbled that we are experiencing a greater manifestation of the power of God in miracles and healings in our church than I can remember in recent times. As I sit typing, I am looking at a cane in the corner of the room that a man handed me a few weeks ago during a worship service because the Lord healed him and he didn’t need it any longer. One of the guitar players on our worship team went in for a dangerous surgery. He asked them to double-check before the procedure. The mass was completely gone. A man in the lobby a few weeks ago was completely healed from cancer. A woman reached out to us yesterday after receiving healing from a leg that was shorter than the other. A man who had to sit down during worship because he was in so much pain in his hip and leg and whose doctors told him there was nothing they could do is completely pain free. And I could go on and on.
Why is this happening? The short answer is, of course, God! But the truth is, there are many people who want God to heal, so let me be specific and tell you some reasons why I believe the Lord is manifesting his power in this way.
You want me to do what God?
I remember the day the Lord told me, “Doug I want you to call forth the prophets.” My response was not an immediate “yes.” First, I told God that I wasn’t even sure what that meant or how to do that. Second, I wasn’t sure what to do with them if we did. But the Lord was gracious with me and began showing me, one step at a time, how to do this despite my questions and hesitations.
Our hesitation with the prophetic
I think many church leaders hesitation with the prophetic is that we have seen it misused in the church. People have thrown around “Thus saith the Lord” to share their opinions or push their agenda
- Call forth the prophetic
Here’s the big thing that pastors need to realize. You already have prophetic people in your church! It is a gift from God and He doesn’t take it away just because you don’t believe in it or don’t know what to do with it. There are many people in your congregation who are sensing things, hearing things, seeing things, having dreams and visions. But many have “shut it down” because they were afraid of it and didn’t know what to do with it. Or worse yet, they had a spiritual experience when they were young and the curiosity of it led them down darker paths of playing with occult activity.
When you begin to teach on the prophetic and call it forth, it doesn’t “stir up weirdness”, those prophetic gifting and spiritual
2. Pastor the prophetic
What I’ve found is that the vast majority of those with a spiritual sensitivity and prophetic gifting want to be mentored and pastored! Sure there are a few rebellious ones who don’t, but they will quickly leave once they realize that they need to come under authority and covering.
3. Give room for the prophetic
